The Speaker Perspective on Nourish

Welcome back, readers! Hopefully, everyone has had their time to adjust to the start of the new semester. If not, that’s fine as well. Most people are just as stressed as you despite having a calm and collected veneer, so you’re not alone in your distress. Hopefully, you’ve all noticed our websites different appearance! The lovely Sammy Bonner from Design gave our website a beautiful makeover. We may look a little different, but TEDxOhioStateUniversity’s content will be better than ever. Our main event, FUSE is slowly (but surely) creeping up on us, and it’ll be incredible to see our reader’s there! More information about the event will be provided below.

If you ever wanted to understand the processes and mindset acquainted with being a TEDxOhioStateUniversity speaker; look no further. One of the incredible line of speakers, Ayna was kind enough to let me disclose her experience of being a speaker in the first installment in the inaugural TEDxOhioStateUniversity Salon series. Ayna secured information about the TEDxOhioStateUniversity event through a friend who deemed her fit to be a speaker at Nourish. Luckily, that friend allowed our Nourish audience to indulge in the great message Ayna sent.

Ayna Arora is a senior studying Food Science and Technology with a minor in Entrepreneurship and Innovation here at Ohio State University. Her path to Ohio State is not of the usual. She grew up in India and saw Ohio State as a fit destination for education since our Food Science program is academically acclaimed. Through her experience at Ohio State, she had the opportunity to take her love for food and inclusivity to the next level. Her Food Science major allows her to explore a probable career in food science; she has gained experience in food product development and research.

Ayna also thanks her Entrepreneurship minor for giving her the foundation for her communicative skills. While undergoing the speaker coaching process, she noticed how she was able to translate the skills from her minor to a bigger scale. The tips from the speaker coaching process allowed her adequately and eloquently communicate her love for food science and entrepreneurship to the audience.

Ayna married her major and her minor through the creation of the Sweet Talks Project. The Sweet Talks Project is her social media movement that creates dialogues of insecurity and empowerment through food. Some of her projects constitute conversations about female sexuality and the expression of it. A lot of the images allow a person to express their sexuality and confidence with the use of food as props. She has stated that her project gives those pictured a boost of confidence never seen before. People should be allowed to express self-love, in whatever form that is, and Ayna’s project allows that occur through photography. Food is often seen as a symbol of physical nourishment, sometimes even gluttony. But The Sweet Talks Project shatters that conception and uses food as a mode to project social movement.

Nourish held captivating talks that deconstruct myths prevalent in our society. The speakers shined a light on topics that are either controversial or just not on our radar. TEDxOhioStateUniversity is devoted to spreading ideas that NEED to be heard to understand the mechanisms at play in our society. Our main event FUSE, will do just that, but on a much larger scale.

FUSE will have a multitude of ideas that people need to hear and comprehend. We have ideas that stem from various scopes and fields, which entails that every talk will be uniquely different from the other, and will allow the audience to rethink some aspects of life. If you want to be part of an audience that is moved by ideas that are worth spreading, we encourage you to buy your FUSE tickets soon. Tickets are available through our website, and more information about that can be found on our site as well.
